Financial literacy

ECMC’s Financial Awareness Basics (FAB) program helps students make smart financial choices.

FAB resources are provided to:

  • Improve the loan experience for your students
  • Help guide students and families to successful money management
  • Train your staff on today’s most critical financial topics and issues

Interactive Web site – www.ecmc.org/fab
The FAB site helps students of all ages adjust to college life, discover ways to pay for college, and learn how to make smart and informed financial decisions through online tools such as financial calculators and comprehensive information resources.

Flexible presentation formats
Our in-person and printed presentations help you develop financial awareness among your students. Printed materials and corresponding PowerPoint presentations can be used by financial aid professionals or by ECMC training staff to promote establishment of healthy financial habits.

Our current offerings include:

  • The basics of student loans
  • Budgeting
  • Money and your personality
  • Your credit rating
  • Managing debt
  • Identity theft

Entrance and exit counseling materials and training
In addition to using our FAB materials and resources to educate student borrowers about smart debt management, financial aid professionals can contact our dedicated FAB staff for training in conducting entrance and exit counseling sessions.

Customizable presentations
Create a custom financial literacy program tailored to your staff and students, requesting information about specific topics or choosing from any combination of our prepared presentations.

Online support tools
In addition to our interactive FAB Web site (www.ecmc.org/fab), the following online tools can help you support and teach students about financial aid obligations, debt management, and financial well-being.

  • QuickStatement (www.ecmc.org/quick_st/index.jsp) This tool provides a clear and comprehensive view of the loans ECMC guaranteed, along with repayment contact information.
  • Mapping Your Future (www.mappingyourfuture.org) ECMC supports this industry-collaborative counseling and planning site.
  • National Student Loan Data System (www.nslds.ed.gov) The U.S. Department of Education's site includes complete federal financial aid history records for each student.
